Cowdenbeath 'A' 7 East Stirlingshire 'A' 1

Posted October 26, 2010

Our run of high scoring Reserve League Cup games continued, as the Shire were hit for seven at Central Park.

Cowden opened the game in blistering fashion and Shire keeper Sorley kept us at bay until the 20th minute when John Ferguson fired a low shot into the corner of the net.

Five minutes later Ferguson turned provider and set up strike partner Greg Stewart to shoot home from 16 yards. Ferguson then grabbed his second goal of the night on 28 minutes after Fairbairn set him up with a defence splitting pass he coolly advanced on the Shire goal to fire home a low shot from 16 yards.

A minute later Fairbairn sent over a cross which eventually fell to Stewart who fired in a shot which was handled by defender O’Hara on its way into the Shire net.

A frantic opened period then closed with a goal for either side. Kyle Miller headed home a Byrne cross after 42 minutes with Steven Watt firing a well placed shot from 15 yards for the visitors.

Stewart completed his hat trick after 69 minutes when he latched onto a long ball from Vauls and ran into slot home an angled shot.

The scoring was then completed seven minutes from time when Miller got his second goal of the game firing home a Fairbairn cross from eight yards.

The Cowden 16 included 7 members of the under 19s team that defeated Raith Rovers on Sunday morning.
