Match Preview: Cowden v Raith Rovers

Posted October 14, 2010

The Blue Brazil complete the first quarter of the 2010/11 Irn Bru First Division campaign on Saturday and mark the milestone with the SFL game of the day as Raith Rovers visit Central Park - don't miss it!

Jimmy Nicholl and Colin Cameron's side have taken a fantastic 12 points from their opening 8 games and the fine form was recognised this week with Nicholl receiving the First Division manager of the month gong and goalkeeper David Hay picking up the SFL player of the month award. The manager is looking for his team to come out on top against his former club and finish the quarter on 15 points.

"This is a big match for both teams and the sort of game that makes football so special", said Nicholl.

"It's a marvelous ocassion for Fife football with both Cowdenbeath and Raith Rovers in the top half of the First Division. I hope that the fans, Cowden and Rovers, come out in their numbers to back their teams and enjoy a good competitive Fife derby.

"We played well against Rovers in the cup earlier in the season but they went on a great run since then and were unbeaten until the recent Stirling Albion game. Losing at home to Stirling in their last match would have been a blow so they will be out to make amends. We need to be ready for that and take the game to the opposition.

"I have been delighted, in general, with our form this season and it was great for the club that this was recognised by the two SFL monthly awards. It's a reflection on the talent and dedication throughout the club from the chairman, Micky Cameron and the backroom team, and all the boys. David Hay also thoroughly deserved his individual award for his performance levels this season."

NIcholl is bouyed  by the return of Mark Baxter from illness and Marc McKenzie from injury but Cowden have a number of injury problems going into the game with John Armstrong, Joe Mbu, Thomas O'Brien sitll out while Kenny Adamson injured his knee at training on Thursday night. Youngsters Danny Mackay and Dene Droudge are making good progress from long-term injuries and are on course to return early in the new year.
