Cowden faced old rivals Dunfermline in the league for the first time in almost twenty years and gave the full-time East End Parks side a run for their money.
The Pars are one of the promotion favourites this season but it was the Blue Brazil who opened the scoring after only 7 minutes when John Dempster calmly side footed home from close range after great play on the break from Marc McKenzie.
Jimmy Nicholl's men contained Dunfermline comfortably in the first half but second half goals from Steven Bell (61) and Joe Cardle (77) eventually turned the game in favour of the home side.
