Match Preview: Cowdenbeath v QOS

Posted August 20, 2010

Cowden welcome Queen of the South to Central Park on Sunday afternoon for the second home match of the Irn-Bru First Division campaign.

With a major stock car race taking place on the Saturday the football will kick off at 3pm on Sunday and the Blue Brazil will go into the game full of confidence after goals from Lee Sibanda, Dean Brett and John Dempster secured three points last Saturday.

"We have two home games coming up, starting with Queen of the South on Sunday, and we will be looking to build on the good win last weekend", commented Jimmy Nicholl.

"I really enjoyed the second half against Stirling Albion. We played well in the first half without getting our rewards so I was very pleased for the players with the final outcome.

"We went a goal down due to slack marking at a set piece and that was a worry as we had struggled to find the back of the net in recent games. But the lads kept believing and fully deserved the three points."

Mark Baxter will miss out this weekend after injuring his hamstring against Stirling Albion. On a more positive note, two players returned to action on Tuesday night in a bounce game against Forfar Athletic with new signing Richard Vauls playing the full 90 minutes while Jon Robertson played half an hour. Both will come into contention for Sunday while Joe Mbu and Dene Droudge are not ready for competitive action but are making good progress. Mbu took part in a full training session on Thursday night and is a couple of weeks away from a return while Droudge is back running.
