Match Preview: Clyde v Cowdenbeath

Posted July 30, 2010

The Blue Brazil kick off the league campaign next Saturday but are in cup action again this weekend when they travel to Cumbernauld to play Clyde in the first round of the Co-op Insurance Cup at Broadwood.

Jimmy Nicholl's team started the season in fine form last Saturday with the 1-0 victory over Raith Rovers in the Alba Challenge Cup thanks to a second half goal from John Armstrong.

"The win over Raith Rovers last week was a real confidence booster as not many people gave us much of a chance", said Nicholl.

"I was delighted with the performance and the fitness of the lads. They have been fantastic in training and I will be looking for them to show that again this Saturday.

"It would be great to progress in another cup competition but the game is also a chance to assess the squad further ahead of the league opener next week. Every game is a chance to learn something new about the players.

"Clyde may be a 3rd division team but they will be very difficult opponents. I have had good reports on them and they had an impressive result against an Everton XI recently. They have a good balance of established league players, juniors looking to make their mark on the senior game and determined youngsters."

Clyde will be familiar to Blue Brasilians after facing the Bully Wee 4 times in the Second Division last season and taking 12 points off them in the process. However, Clyde have regrouped under new head coach Stuart Millar and are one of the Third Divison promotion favourites.

Craig Winter misses out tomorrow for family reasons but John Ferguson (18) and Lewis Milne (16) are added to the squad while Thomas O'Brien (18) will be pushing for a starting place. Jon Robertson, Joe Mbu, Dene Droudge and Danny Mackay again miss out due to injury.
