MATCH PREVIEW - BROXBURN ATHLETIC (H)

Posted March 8, 2025

This afternoon we welcome Broxburn Athletic to Central Park for their first ever league visit with a 3pm kick off.

Last season they won the East of Scotland Premier Division eleven points clear of runners up Musselburgh Athletic with 74 points from their 30 games. With West of Scotland Champions Beith not being licenced it became a straight shoot out between East and South for the promotion spot into the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League. In the Play Off with South of Scotland Champions Dalbeatie Star they won the First Leg 4-1 at Islecroft Stadium and the Second Leg 8-1 at Albyn Park to win 12-2 on aggregate and gain promotion the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League.

The Brox made a blistering start to life in the Lowland League but have only won three league games since early November, drawing once and losing six. They however currently sit in seventh place with 40 points from their opening 26 games.

Our visit to Albyn Park back in September when they were very much in good form and ran out 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Errol Douglas, Nicky Lowe, Jonathan Page and Scott McCrory-Irving.

THE OPPOSITION - SEASON SO FAR

Broxburn have won 12 of their league games beating Broomhill (3-1 & 4-0), Albion Rovers (3-0), Cumbernauld United (3-0), Gala Fairydean Rovers (3-0), Gretna 2008 (2-0), Cowden (4-0), East Stirlingshire (5-0), Berwick Rangers (3-0), Caledonian Braves (1-0), East Stirlingshire (6-1) and Tranent (2-1). Albyn Park has certainly been a fortress with nine of the wins coming at home.

Their ten defeats have come against Linlithgow Rose (2-6), East Kilbride (1-4 & 0-1), University of Stirling (1-2), Civil Service Strollers (1-2), Celtic B (1-5), Hearts B (0-1), Gretna 2008 (1-6), Albion Rovers (0-5) and Tranent (2-5).

In the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup they had a good run beating Dalkeith Thistle (4-0) at Kings Park before the live BBC Scotland cameras, Auchinlek Talbot (1-0) at Beechwood Park and Stranraer at Stair Park (2-1) after extra time before bowing out 8-0 to Ayr United at Albyn Park.

In the South Challenge Cup they beat Ardrossan Winton Rovers 4-3 after extra time in a game switched to Valefield Park in Kilbirnie and followed that up with a 10-2 win over Nithsdale Wanderers at Lorimer Park.

On the road again they had a 1-0 win over Eglinton at the Ian Cashmore Senior Park before bowing out 0-4 to Clydebank at Albyn Park.
