MATCH PREVIEW - GRETNA 2008 (H)

Posted February 22, 2025

After two weeks on the road, Park’s Motor Group Lowland League action returns to Central Park with a visit from Gretna 2008 and a 3pm kick off.

Last Saturday, while we were winning 3-2 at Tranent, the Anvils pulled off their most impressive win of the season winning 6-1 at Broxburn.

Gretna sit two places above us in 11th place with 31 points from their 26 games, two more than us and a win can take us to within a point of them.

THE OPPOSITION

Gretna have won eight of their 26 Park’s Motor Group Lowland League game this season against University of Stirling (1-0), Cumbernauld Colts (1-0 & 1-0), Hearts B (6-1), Berwick Rangers (3-0), Gala Fairydean Rovers (2-0), Broomhill (1-0) and Broxburn Athletic (6-1).

There have been seven draws against Caledonian Braves (0-0 & 2-2), Tranent (2-2), Cowden (1-1), East Stirlingshire (0-0), Broomhill (1-1) and Berwick Rangers (2-2).

Their 11 defeats have come against Albion Rovers (0-3 & 0-5), Linlithgow Rose (1-3), Celtic B (0-1 & 0-4), Broxburn Athletic (0-2), Bo’ness United (0-3 & 0-1), East Kilbride (0-5 & 1-3) and Civil Service Strollers (1-3).

In the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup they went down 2-0 to East Kilbride at K Park. They had a better South Challenge Cup campaign beating Newton Stewart 4-1 and Lesmahagow 3-1 Raydale Park and St Cadoc’s 3-2 at New Tinto Park before bowing out 1-3 to Hill of Beath Hawthorn at Raydale Park.

In the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League Cup they lost 3-2 at home to University of Stirling.

PREVIOUS PARK’S MOTOR GROUP LOWLAND LEAGUE MEETINGS

Gretna arrive at Central Park this afternoon as the most improved Park’s Motor Group Lowland League side this season.

The Anvils currently sit in 11th place with 31 points from 26 games and are currently on course to possibility earn more than they have over the previous two seasons (38). Last season it took a final day 2-1 win over Edinburgh University at Raydale Park to ensure their Lowland League status and see the students relegated to the East of Scotland league.

The first meeting of the clubs in September saw a 3-0 win at Central Park thanks to goals from Scott Sinclair, Sean Slaven and Aiden Gilmartin while the return game that season saw Gretna win 1-0 thanks to a Russell Currie goal.

Last season we ran out 3-2 winners at Raydale Park with Jamie Docherty with a brace and Jack Duncan getting our goals with Robbie Ivison and Dario Viviani replying for the Anvils. The return game at Central Park saw Liam Short give Gretna a half time lead before Zac Butterworth and Robbie McNab struck in the second half to secure a 2-1.

In October we took an early lead at Raydale Park with Stuart Douglas equalising in the last minute.
