MATCH PREVIEW - ALBION ROVERS (A)

Posted January 25, 2025

After our win over University of Stirling last Saturday we are back on the road when we face Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill with a 3pm kick off.

This is our second visit of the season to Coatbridge following an SPFL Trust Trophy tie back in August. The game at Cliftonhill which saw us win 4-3 with Jamie Docherty hitting a brace along with Jake Sutherland and Paul McLean with Alan Reid and Paul Kennedy, who had a penalty saved by Josh Blair, grabbing a brace.

Daryl Healy returns to the squad after his two game suspension but Rhys Walker once again sits out as he serves the second of his two game ban.

THE OPPOSITION

Rovers sit in seventh place in the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League with 31 points from 21 games.

This afternoon’s game will be their first game in almost a month with their last game being on 28th December when they went down 2-1 to East Kilbride at K Park and with a free Saturday Sandy Clark took in our game last week.

They have had eight wins against Gretna 2008 (3-0, 5-0), Tranent (2-0), Broomhill (3-2), Civil Service Strollers (2-1, 2-1), University of Stirling (5-0) and Hearts B (2-0). There have been six draws against Caledonian Braves (1-1), Gala Fairydean Rovers (3-3), East Stirlingshire (2-2), Cumbernauld Colts (1-1), Broomhill (2-2), Tranent (2-2) and Cowden (1-1). Their six defeats have come against Broxburn Athletic (0-3), Bo’ness United (1-2), Linlithgow Rose (1-2), Berwick Rangers (0-2), Celtic B (0-4) and East Kilbride (1-2).

In the Scottish gas Scottish Cup they lost 2-1 to Auchinleck Talbot at Cliftonhill while in the South Challenge Cup they beat Fauldhouse United 8-0 at Parkview and Dunipace 2-1 at Cliftonhill after extra time before losing 5-3 on penalties to shotts Bon Accord following a goal less draw at Hannah Park.

PREVIOUS PARK'S MOTOR GROUP LOWLAND LEAGUE MEETINGS

There have only been three previous meetings in the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League.

Last season the sides fought out a goal less game at Central Park while we won 1-0 at Cliftonhill courtesy of a Matty McDonald goal.

Last month saw another draw at Central Park with Jamie Docherty giving us a half time lead which was cancelled out by a penalty from Paul Kennedy early in the second half.
