The Board of Cowdenbeath FC were truly saddened to learn today of the passing of Jimmy Calderwood at the age of 69. We send condolences from everyone at Central Park to Jimmy’s family and friends.
Jimmy had a marvellous football career as a player primarily with Birmingham City and then as a manager - in the Netherlands and with Dunfermline, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Ross County. He left his last management role early in 2014 and of course then missed the day to day involvement in the game he had enjoyed for so many years. He was thereafter often a popular guest in the Cowdenbeath boardroom as a good friend of Bob Brownlie, our club doctor.
In 2016, he was therefore delighted to join the Cowdenbeath Board at the invitation of chairman Donald Findlay. We were very pleased to have Jimmy join us and to be able to offer him an involvement in the game once more. He brought a real wealth of football knowledge and experience to the Board. He also entertained with his many tales of his time in football and visiting Directors greatly enjoyed meeting up with Jimmy in our Boardroom. Jimmy was also available to provide counsel to our managers if asked and was always supportive of the man in the hotseat – having experienced that role himself. Jimmy left the Board in 2019 as his illness took an increasing hold. We were though honoured that Jimmy was able to have this final coda to his football life with us at Central Park and were privileged to know him as a colleague and friend.
