Jake Joins On Loan

Posted July 19, 2024

Cowdenbeath today were delighted to conclude a loan deal with our neighbours Dunfermline Athletic which sees their highly-regarded young striker Jake Sutherland come to Central Park for season 2024/25.

Jake and his family of course hail from Cowdenbeath. His elder brother Taylor Sutherland is also a striker and is now involved in the first team squad at Dunfermline. Last season, Jake and Taylor teamed up to score the goals that allowed the Pars to defeat Livingston in the SPFL Reserve Cup final.

Jake attended Foulford School and Beath High School and started his football journey with the Blue Brazil Boys Club. He went on to join the Fife Elite Football Academy which transitioned into the Dunfermline Athletic Academy. Jake made his first team debut for the Pars last season and we warmly welcome him to Central Park and truly appreciate Dunfermline’s assistance in agreeing to his loan.

Cowden boss Dougie Hill said, "Really pleased that we have got Jake in to supplement our attacking options. He has an excellent attitude and we are confident this loan will elevate his game further. He’s also a local lad and I feel that is a real positive as well. I am looking forward to working with Jake."

Jake also shared his initial thoughts on the move saying, "I’m delighted to join Cowdenbeath on loan for the season. I’m excited to get started and get more first team experience in a very challenging league."

Colin Nelson, Football Operations Co-ordinator at Central Park said after the deal was concluded, "It’s great news that Jake is now confirmed to be joining us. This is an arrangement we have been working on from the end of last season. Jake is an excellent finisher and his previous loan spell at Crossgates saw him impress at the end of last season. We believe this is the right club and ideal environment for Jake to develop further. Our grateful thanks again go out to Dunfermline for their cooperation and willingness to make this loan happen."

Jake and his brother Taylor of course follow in a long line of well-known Cowdenbeath born and bred footballing siblings - including names such as George and Andy Kinnell, Tom and Willie Callaghan, Eric and Alan Archibald, Dick and Ian Campbell and more recently Connor and Callum Smith. Jake’s grandfather Clark Sutherland was also a footballer - with Brechin City back in the Seventies.
