MATCH PREVIEW - ALBION ROVERS (H)

Posted October 31, 2023

It's Halloween night football as we welcome Albion Rovers to Central Park with a 7.45pm kick off.

Rovers have had a slow start to their inaugural Lowland League campaign due to taking part in both the Viaplay Cup and the SPFL Trust Trophy and have only played nine games and sit in 15th place with 13 points.

LAST TIME OUT

Mikey Cunningham came off the bench on Saturday at Kilwinning to score our goal in a 1-0 Scottish Gas Scottish Cup win at Buffs Park.

THE OPPOSITION

Amazingly we are the fifth Fife side that Sandy Clark’s side have faced this season after meetings with Raith Rovers and Dunfermline Athletic in the Viaplay Cup, Newburgh in the South Challenge Cup and on Saturday St Andrews United in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

In Saturday’s game Sandy Clark celebrated his 67th birthday with a 2-1 win with Niah Joseph and Alex McCaw scored either side of an equaliser from Lewis Sawers. The game saw both sides end with ten men after Sawers followed veteran Alan Reid off the park.

In the league so far Rovers have had four wins against Gretna 2008 (4-0), Bo’ness United (1-0), East Stirlingshire (3-1) and Berwick Rangers (1-0). They have had four defeats against Hearts B (1-2), Celtic B (1-2) and University of Stirling (0-1) while their only draw was 2-2 against the students.

In the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup they had beaten University of Stirling 3-1 in a live game shown on BBC Scotland.

They have also progressed to the last 32 of the South Challenge Cup following wins over Newburgh (4-0), West Park United (3-2) and Armadale Thistle (5-0) and now have an away tie at Kilwinning Rangers.

In the Viaplay Cup they beat League One Annan Athletic 2-1 but lost to Raith Rovers (0-2), Dunfermline Athletic (0-3) and Kilmarnock (1-2).
