MATCH PREVIEW - FORFAR ATHLETIC (A)

Posted July 15, 2023

The season starts in earnest this afternoon when we face Forfar Athletic at Station Park in our opening Viaplay Cup Group H game with a 3pm kick-off.

It is the first in a trilogy of games against Angus sides this week with matches against Arbroath and Montrose to follow in the next seven days.

LAST TIME OUT

Last Saturday afternoon we completed our short run of pre-season games with a 1-0 over The Swifts at Dalgety Bay with Aiden McLaughlin getting the only goal of the afternoon.

THE OPPOSITION

A fortnight ago it looked like the Loons were going to lose their manager Ray McKinnon to an EFL side but he decided to stay at Station Park.

During the summer McKinnon has made ten new signings – Matty Allan and Mark Whatley (both Montrose), Kieran Inglis (Brechin City), Stuart Morrison (QOS), Adam Hutchison, Darren Watson and Finn Robson(Dundee United), Josh Skelly (Broughty Athletic), Ryan Paterson (Lochee United) and Zac Parris (Hearts).

Skelly of course had a spell on loan to us from Montrose in season 2018-19 and has shown up well in the pre-season build up scoring four times.

The Loons opened their series of games with a 3-1 win over Montrose at Links Park which was followed up with 6-0 closed door win over Lochee United, while last Saturday they beat Highland League Formartine United 2-1 also at Station Park.
