Alloa Athletic 3 Cowdenbeath 1

Posted May 1, 2010

Ten man Cowden went down 3-1 to Alloa Athletic at Recreation Park on Saturday afternoon.

Danny Lennon made a number of changes to his staring line-up - including a debut for impressive 17-year old right-back Dean Brett - but his under strength side more than matched Alloa until a sending off changed the course of the game.

John Dempster deservedly opened the scoring from a Brian Fairbairn cross after 28 minutes but the dismissal of John Armstrong a minute before the break changed the game in favour of the home side.

Bryan Prunty scored the equaliser after 74 minutes before a late Andy Scott double (79, pen & 83) won the points for Alloa.

Cowden host Alloa in the 1st leg of the 1st Division play off semi-final on Wednesday before returning to Recreation Park a week today for the 2nd leg.

"Our game plan was working well but the sending off changed the game and we lost our discipline a bit after the equaliser", commented Lennon.

"However It was an opportunity for some of the players who have not featured recently to get 90 minutes under their belt and I was delighted with the performance of young Dean Brett.

"The players have been fantastic this season for myself and Iain Jenkins and have exceeded all expectations. There is much more to come from them and they fully believe that they can win the play off. We know what we have to do and will give it our best shot.

"I would like to thank the supporters for backing us all the way this season and hope we have given them a team to be proud of."

The coaching team and players joined the fans later in the evening at Wee Jimmies for the annual Supporters' Club awards ceremony. Danny Lennon and his team were given a rousing reception in recognition of a remarkable season for the club with the following awards made:

Supporters Club Player of the Year - Joe Mbu
