Cowdenbeath 4 Brechin City 0

Posted April 24, 2010

The Blue Brazil produced one of the performances of the season to thump promotion rivals Brechin City and keep our title hopes alive.

The two sides may have drawn on Tuesday night but there was only going to be one winner this time around as Cowden controlled the game from start to finish and added two contenders for goal of the season for good measure.

Scott McBride hit the post before Paul McQuade and Gareth Wardlaw passed up guilt-edged chances but McQuade (27) finally opened the scoring after glancing a header home from a fantastic McBride delivery.

Darren McGregor added the second after 35 minutes with a rocket from 25 yards that flew past Craig Nelson into the top corner.

It looked like a re-run of of the midweek game but the Blue Brazil made sure there was a different ending this time with a second half performance to match the first. Wardlaw finished the game as a contest a minute after the break with a header from a long throw from Scott Linton before McBride made another assist with a Hollywood ball for McQuade (56) and the hitman scored with a sublime first time volley past Nelson.

Danny Lennon's team have now guaranteed a top 3 finish and face new league leaders Stirling Albion at Central Park on Tuesday night before finishing the campaign away to second top Alloa Athletic.
