A Gareth Wardlaw goal 14 minutes from time all but secured our place in the 1st Division play offs. The point also kept our title ambitions alive but with only 4 games remaining - all against our top 4 rivals - it will take a heroic effort in what has already been a fantastic season.
After a shaky opening 5 minutes Cowden completely dominated the 1st half with Darren McGregor coming closest to a deserved opening goal but his header came back off the bar. Arbroath withstood the pressure and took a shock lead after an uncharacteristic error from Joe Mbu put the defence on the back foot allowing Keith Gibson to fire home from 8 yards.
The second half was a scrappy affair but the majority of action continued in the Arbroath half and the equalising goal eventually came on 76 minutes. A corner from Paul McQuade was headed goalwards by McGregor and Wardlaw deflected the ball into the net.
McQuade almost won the game in the closing minutes but his effort was saved by Darren Hill in the away goal.
The Blue Brazil are away to Brechin City on Tuesday night and complete the double header by hosting Jim Duffy's side next Saturday.
