MATCH PREVIEW - TRANENT JUNIORS (A)

Posted September 24, 2022

After four home games we are back on the road this afternoon when we head to Foresters Park to face Tranent with a 3pm in what will be the first meeting of the sides.

Like ourselves, it is the East Lothian sides first season in the Lowland League after winning the East of Scotland League Premier Division last season, pipping Penicuik on goal difference, and the subsequent Play Off with St Cuthberts Wanderers and Darvel.

Promotion winning manager Calum Elliot left the club in late August and was replaced by former Cowden player/manager Colin Nish. There are a few former Cowden players also in the Foresters Park squad, Shaun Rutherford, Craig Barr, Kane O’Connor and Kris Renton.

Tranent currently sit in seventh place in the table with 15 points from their opening eight games which comprises of four wins, three draws and just one defeat. That defeat came on the opening day of the season when they went down 3-2 at home to East Kilbride.

Their first win came at Broadwood the following week when they beat Cumbernauld Colts while a second win followed when Berwick Rangers were beaten 1-0 at Foresters Park. The good run continued with another home win when University of Stirling went down 2-1, before a goal less draw with Civil Service Strollers at Christie Gillies Park.

In a break from the Lowland League Armadale Thistle were beaten 2-1 at Creamery Park in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup First Round.

Back on league duty they won 2-1 at Bo;ness before a goal less home game with Gala Fairydean Rovers. A third draw then followed when they drew 2-2 with East Stirlingshire at the Falkirk Stadium.

In the Scottish Cup they went down 4-2 to Kilwinning Rangers at Buffs Park last Saturday.

New signings Dean Ritchie and Iain Davidson go into the squad for the game.
