Saints Come Marching In

Posted June 26, 2022

Football of course resumed at Central Park on Friday with a bounce match v Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts. That allowed manager Maurice Ross to cast his eye over a large number of trialists whilst giving many of our new signings an initial run out after a few training sessions. With the competitive stuff just a fortnight away matters are well advanced as regards putting in place the squad for the Premier Sports Cup ties. A number of signings are underway and today we can announce three new captures for the coming campaign.

Firstly, we have signed Mark Donaldson (18), who has been with the St Mirren Academy since 2014. Mark signed a 2 year pro contract with Saints in 2021. St Mirren though have now agreed to his release and the midfielder has moved quarters to commit his future to the Blue Brazil.

In addition, we then agreed with St Mirren season long loan deals for two of their highly rated prospects - both of whom like Mark have progressed through the Paisley club's academy. Joining us at Central Park are Aiden Gilmartin and Ewan Thomson. Aiden made his SPFL debut in Saints' last match of season 2021/22 whilst Euan was on the bench for that game. Thus with both players knocking on the first team door, it was an ideal arrangement for both clubs and the players to conclude these loan deals. Aiden is a striker whilst Ewan is a versatile right sided player.

Our thanks go to St Mirren for their cooperation with these arrangements whilst today's signings continue to reflect a fresh approach to recruitment at CFC. Welcome to Mark, Ewan and Aiden from all of us at Cowdenbeath FC.
