Barrowman for Blue Brazil

Posted January 6, 2022

Cowdenbeath boss Maurice Ross today completed his first signing of 2022 as Andrew Barrowman joined the Blue Brazil after his international clearance came through from the USA.

Andrew was born in the USA but also has British citizenship. His father (Andrew snr) was born in Glasgow and played pro soccer for Chicago Sting in the NASL. Andrew, aged 23, is an attacking central midfielder with an eye for goal.

Over in the States as a youngster he came through the soccer ranks with Bangor High School, Chicago Sockers, Chicago Magic and Team Chicago. He also had some time with Rangers over in Scotland and then was back in the States with Seacoast United before joining the Academy at New England Revolution. Andrew then accepted a scholarship to play NCAA soccer at the University of Massachusetts but subsequently decided to look to pursue a professional football career in Europe.

Andrew thus joined Airdrie in 2019 where he impressed in the reserve side and was on the bench for the first team. Then though came the Covid disruption and Andrew ended up returning home to the USA.

He played for a time with Western Mass Pioneers before deciding to return to play in the UK in Autumn. Andrew commented, “I didn’t let the pandemic beat me down because I knew I had the talent to kick on when the doors would be opened again but I was naive as to how long it would actually take and how many hurdles I’d have to jump to get back in the pro circuits.”

Maurice Ross then got in touch with Andrew - "He liked my resume, footage and style of play in training and offered me a contract"

And now Andrew looks forward to making his debut for the Blue Brazil. Maurice Ross was delighted to be able to agree terms with Andrew and we offer him a warm welcome from everyone at Central Park.

On his new signing, Maurice Ross commented “Andrew is the epitome of what I want at this football club. Young, hungry, athletic footballer who’s  keen to learn and develop. This is the new model for our football club! We give young lads the opportunity to build or resurrect a career. We have a blueprint of what we want and won’t deviate from it!
