MATCH PREVIEW – BRECHIN CITY (H)

Posted July 17, 2021

After playing a side from the Championship and one newly relegated from the second tier in our opening Premier Sports Cup Group D games it’s a different challenge this afternoon as we welcome Brechin City who were relegated to the Highland League in May.

Since their two leg play off defeat from Kelty in May there have been major changes at Glebe Park both on and off the park for the challenge ahead.

A new interim committee have taken charge with former Cowden play and boss Craig Levein brought in as an adviser.

One of the first changes was to bring in former Hearts coach Andy Kirk in as manager with former Cowden loanee Stephen Simmons as his assistant.

Former player/manager Michael Paton has reverted back to his playing role one of the four players to remain from last season.

Kirk’s team has been a work in progress in the opening cup games which have seen a 3-0 home defeat from Premiership Livingston at the Glebe on Saturday and a 4-0 reverse against Raith Rovers at Starks Park.

One of the new players featuring today will be former Cowden captain David Cox, whilst former Raith man Iain Davison , who had a well deserved testimonial against Hibs last night, has also joined for the Highland adventure.

Last season the two games at Central Park saw each side win 2-0. In December goals from Craig Barr and Iain Russell gave us the points, while in April Rangers loanee Chris McKee and Bobby Barr secured City’s second win of the season.

The previous week the sides had battled out a goalless draw at Glebe Park.
