2020/21 – Many Thanks

Posted May 17, 2021

Now that the dust has settled for us on season 2020/21 and it is in our rear view mirror, manager Gary Bollan is busy looking to assemble his squad for next season – we will update on progress in this regard very soon.

2020/21 was one of the most difficult seasons CFC (and no doubt many other clubs) have ever experienced. In some ways it did not feel like a proper season – not least in respect of the old adage - ‘football without fans is nothing’. It was abbreviated, stop-start and the Covid procedures, testing and associated paperwork were time-consuming, uncomfortable, expensive and onerous.

On the field we were rather hamstrung by a dreadful run of injuries in the first part of the season and then the long hiatus at the turn of the year did not help matters. However, although our fans could not be present at our matches they truly did give wonderful support to the club in so many ways throughout this, the longest year, the year of Covid. The Board, therefore, on behalf of everyone at Central Park including the players and coaching team, can only express their gratitude for your continued backing – it helped sustain us all in 2020/21.

In addition, the Board would like to put on record its appreciation of the efforts and professionalism of our playing and coaching staff as they tackled all sorts of difficulties, discomforts and tribulations whilst representing our club. We all of course would have wished for a higher place finish in the League but few teams could match the harmony and true team spirit that was in evidence in the Central Park dressing room last season. Special thanks too go to all those volunteers who assisted us by undertaking duties so we could get matches on at Central Park, those who helped in developing, producing and broadcasting BBTV as well as all our sponsors and advertisers who despite facing their own difficulties continued to back us.

And also a word of thanks to our fellow L1/2 clubs, in particular those in our own division, who we worked closely with in these difficult days, for their understanding, mutual respect and good humour on so many matters even when we didn’t always agree with each other.
