Match Preview: Cowdenbeath v Alloa Athletic

Posted March 16, 2010

Cowdenbeath host league leaders Alloa Athletic tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) on the back of three consecutive wins and knowing that a victory will see us leapfrog our opponents into top spot.

Allan Maitland's team claimed pole position back in February and the league's big spenders moved eight points clear at one stage. However, nine points from our last three games has closed the gap to just three points with a superior goal difference and also a game in hand. The pressure is now all on the Recreation Park team to maintain their position at the top of the SFL Irn-Bru Second Division.

"This is a massive game for both sides and we are under no illusions about how difficult a challenge lies ahead but we go into the game full of confidence", commented Assistant Manager Iain Jenkins.

"Alloa are a well organised outfit and very difficult team to break down. But we know what we have to do and if we play to our potential the result will take care of itself.

"It's a very competitive league and everyone will have difficult spells - as we have bounced back from recently. Everyone will drop points between now and the end of the season so no matter the result tonight it's all to play for."

Joe Mbu, Dene Droudge and Paul McQuade are expected to recover from knocks sustained at the weekend. However, Gareth Wardlaw is rated as 50/50 after picking up a knock in the same game.

Admission The gates open at 6.45pm with admission set at: Adults £12, Concessions £6, Adult and Child £15.
