The sad news has reached us of the passing of former Cowdenbeath full back Donald Clark from Lochgelly yesterday after a short illness. On behalf of everyone at Central Park and all Cowdenbeath fans we send our most sincere condolences to all Donald’s friends and family.
Donald’s early football was played for Lochgelly East School, Lochgelly Juveniles, Kelty Hearts, Nairn Thistle and Lochgelly Albert. He was then called up to serve in the RAF at Kinloss and played for the local side, Forres Mechanics, in the Highland League – including in the Scottish Cup tie v Celtic in 1957 which established a record crowd for Mosset Park. When he was demobbed, he returned home to Lochgelly and joined Cowdenbeath. Donald was then a regular in the side for 3 years and also captained the Miners for a time. He made 94 appearances in a Cowden jersey scoring one goal. A highlight was playing in the Cowdenbeath side that lost to Hearts in the League Cup semi final in 1959. Donald latterly worked at Rosyth Dockyard before his retirement and was also a keen golfer at Lochgelly Golf Club.
