Cowdenbeath 2 Arbroath 1

Posted March 9, 2010

This fixture finally went ahead at the fourth time of asking and it was worth the wait as the Blue Brazil made it two home wins on the bounce thanks to a fantastic second half comeback with goals from Paul McQuade and Darren McGregor earning a 2-1 win over Arbroath.

Paul Lunan gave the Lichties the lead after 19 minutes and the score remained 1-0 at the interval despite Cowden having the lions share of possession.

Danny Lennon rallied his troops at half time and a storming performance saw Cowden claim the points thanks to quick fire goals from top scorer Paul McQuade (63) and Darren McGregor (66). Sub John Dempster hit the post late on as Cowden finished strongly.

The win moves Cowden to within 3 points of top spot after leaders Alloa Athletic went down to a 3-1 defeat at Dumbarton.

"I felt we were always in control but Arbroath made it difficult for us as they were difficult to break down", said Lennon.

"We lost a poor goal from a set play but the response and application from the lads was first class. All that was missing in the 1st half was more quality in the final third.

"I had a few words with the boys at half-time and I knew that if they kept doing the right things the opportunities would come. They stuck to their task and I am delighted to come away with a well deserved three points on the back of another very good performance.

"We will not look too far forward and will keep our focus on short-term goals. There are still 36 points to play for but the next 3 up for grabs is our immediate goal so our focus is now firmly on Saturday and a difficult task away to Clyde."
