Cowdenbeath 6 East Fife 2

Posted March 6, 2010

The Blue Brazil finally got back into competitive action on Saturday afternoon and it was well worth the wait as Danny Lennon's team hit six against local rivals East Fife in a demolition derby performance at Central Park.

The home side dominated from start to finish but it was a sizzling second half showing that really punished an East Fife side that would have been relieved to have avoided a heavier defeat.

East Fife survived the early pressure but Jay Stein finally opened the scoring in style after 35 minutes with a fantastic free kick that soared into Michael Brown's top right hand corner.

Player-manager Stevie Crawford leveled the scores against the run of play 6 minutes after the interval but the goal only galvanised Cowden and Gareth Wardlaw restored the lead two minutes later after a superb delivery from the impressive Dene Droudge (pictured).

Paul McQuade (60)  extended our lead  and a top drawer strike from Darren McGregor two minutes later put the Blue Brazil out of sight.  Paul McManus pulled a goal back after slack defending but two further goals from Mark Ramsay (69) and Jay Stein (70) completed the rout.

"First and foremost I was delighted to get the three points and an overdue win under our belt", said Lennon.

"The level of performance was particularly pleasing and the team clicked on the day. I was proud of the team and the boys stuck to the game plan and the team work was rewarded.

"It was extra special given it was  derby game as it gives our loyal fans the bragging rights."

Next up is our home game against Arbroath on Tuesday (9th) night - 7.45pm kick off. Get along to Central Park and show your support for a team that has done the community proud this season.
