Mackay on the way back

Posted February 17, 2010

18-year old Danny Mackay made his long awaited comeback from serious injury in Monday night's Reserve League Cup fixture against Arbroath at Central Park. The promising youngster featured in a couple of 'bounce' games recently but marked his return to competitive action when he replaced Joe Mbu with 30 minutes remaining.

Mackay made the central midfield berth his own last season and his fine formed earned him the Supporters' Club Young Player of the Year award. His progress had been curtailed after suffering serious ligament damage in the play-off match with East Stirling last May which resulted in the 9 month lay-off. But the player has worked hard to return to full fitness with the help of the coaching and medical staff, and gym membership donated by the Cowdenbeath Community Trust.

"It was great to see Dan back in competitive action", said Danny Lennon.

"He made a fantastic contribution last season and can push on again once he has regained full match fitness."

Mackay's fellow long-term injury victims John Dempster and Darren McGregor, who returned to 1st team action recently, got another 90 minutes under their belt. Dempster found the net in the 1-1 draw - his second goal in two reserve games since recovering from a troublesome groin injury.
