CHANGE TO CAUTIONS / SUSPENSION ARRANGEMENTS FOR SPFL LEAGUE MATCHES 2018/19

Please note the following important change will apply this season. Last season once a player totalled 6 Cautions in League matches he would serve a 1 match suspension in the League beginning 14 days after 6th caution was received. Then if player went on to increase his tally to 12 League cautions a further 2 match suspension would apply 14 days after 12th caution was received in respect of League matches (18 cautions would then be a 3 game suspension).

System for 2018/19 is that a player in League 2 will only get a 1 match suspension in the League if he picks up 6 cautions in the first 18 league games. If he has less than 6 cautions at the 18 game point then he would not receive any suspension when a 6th League caution was received. Instead, he would then go into the second half of the season (games 19 – 36 plus any play off matches) and would only receive a suspension once he had amassed 12 cautions (that would produce a 2 match League suspension). Then picking up another 6 to go to 18 would produce a 3 match suspension.

Some examples may help:

League Matches 1 – 18 - 5 cautions received, then matches 19 -36 plus play offs 6 cautions received = 11 in total – no suspensions would apply as first half and second half thresholds of 6 and 12 respectively not reached.

Matches 1 - 18 - 8 cautions received, then matches 19 – 36 plus play offs 4 cautions received = 12 in total. 1 match suspension 14 days after 6th caution received and 2 match suspension 14 days after 12th caution received.

Matches 1 - 8 - 3 cautions received, then matches 19 – 36 plus play offs 9 cautions received = 12 in total. 2 match suspension 14 days after 12th caution received.
