Match Preview: Alloa Athletic v Cowdenbeath

Posted February 8, 2010

The Blue Brazil have the ideal early opportunity to put Saturday's defeat firmly behind them when they face Alloa Athletic in a top of the table clash on Tuesday night.

The 3-1 reversal against Peterhead was our first defeat at Central Park since the opening game of the season and only the second loss in the last 14 league games. This fantastic run of form has seen Cowden hold pole position since the 7th of November and the management team and squad are looking forward to locking horns with our nearest challengers.

Alloa trail Cowden on goal difference after their draw with Brechin City at the weekend moved them onto equal points. The Recreation Park club are one of the favourites for the title this season after investing heavily on their squad in the summer and added another three higher league players - Bryan Prunty, David Gormley and Kevin Welsh - in the January window.

"We have a chance to get straight back into it after Saturday's disappointing result", commented Danny Lennon.

"It's a top of the table game so it's an occasion to savour for the players and fans. It's getting tight at the top but we aim to to regain the solid foundation that has served us so well this season and do not intend to disappoint."

Joe Mbu has recovered from his groin injury but this game may come too soon for the star defender. Scott McBride will definitely miss out but is making good progress from his foot injury while Mark Torrance returns to the squad.
