The Board of Cowdenbeath FC are delighted to now announce the appointment of Gary Bollan as the club’s new manager. The club was very pleased to receive no less than 44 applications for the post – many of whom had managed at senior level in Scotland. A short leet was then drawn up and following a selection process and interviews, Gary was the choice to take the club forward.
Gary (aged 44) is a Dundonian and took his first steps in the game at Dundee United. He played as a defender and in a long senior career featured in Scotland’s top flight for United, Rangers, Livingston, St Johnstone and Motherwell. Gary also was capped 17 times at under-21 level by Scotland.
He took his first steps onto the coaching ladder with Clyde. In 2009, Gary was appointed manager of Livingston and he guided the club to successive Championship successes in the Third and Second Divisions. He next took charge at Airdrie and steered the club away from the relegation zone. Gary latterly was at Forfar who he took to promotion last season with victory in the play-offs. Overall Gary’s record in management in Scotland is highly impressive with a 45% win percentage.
Cowdenbeath Chairman Donald Findlay in welcoming Gary to the Club said, ‘I am really glad to be able to now confirm Gary’s appointment as our new manager. He has an absolute wealth of experience and great knowledge of the players and teams in our Division and above. He also very much has a proven track record. He really impressed at interview by setting out clearly his plans for the club and his determination to succeed. His people have already been watching us in the past couple of games. At present we are bottom of the League, but with two thirds of the season ahead, we now move forward with renewed impetus under Gary’s leadership. I would simply now ask every Cowdenbeath fan, indeed anyone with Cowden’s interests at heart, to unite behind Gary and the team – there is hard work in front of us but your backing and support is vital as we tackle the challenges ahead’.
