Hopes are high that Cowdenbeath and East Fife will come out of cold storage this weekend after an enforced lengthy winter break due to the adverse weather but the prospect of the first Fife derby of 2010 promises to heat things up. A pitch inspection is not planned after an inspection by the East Fife ground staff on Friday morning declared the pitch playable.
The Blue Brazil, as with all our rivals, were last in action over a month ago when we defeated Stenhousemuir 2-1 on the 15th of December thanks to a late winner from Paul McQuade. The win strengthened Cowden's position at the top of the leauge butt the freezing conditions set in shortly after and the squad have spent the intervening period training at various indoor locations across Fife and the Lothians. The players, unsurprisingly, are desperate to get back into action:
"It has been a frustrating spell but the signs are looking good for tomorrow", said Danny Lennon.
"The boys and the backroom team are raring to go and a Fife derby would be a great way to re-start the season.
"East Fife will be difficult opponents as always but we are well prepared and determined to keep up the high standards that we have set so far this season.
"I am sure our fans will turn out in their numbers and give their usual fantastic backing."
Lennon has almost a full squad to choose from apart from Kenny Adamson who serves the first of a two game suspension after his ordering off against Stenhousemuir while one unamed player is causing Lennon some concern. Long-term injured trio Darren McGregor, Danny Mackay and John Dempster have returned to full fitness but are likely to feature in a few reserve and bounce games before being considered for 1st team action.
The Methill club are offering reduced admission for this game with prices set at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
