MATCH PREVIEW - ELGIN CITY (A)

Posted May 5, 2017

After 35 league games it is now all down to the final game of the campaign as we lock horns in a three way battle with Clyde and Berwick to avoid tenth place and  a Play Off with either Buckie or East Kilbride.

Our hosts Elgin's recent slump in form in the final quarter of the season has seen them drop out of the promotion Play Off slots and are now a point behind fourth place Montrose.

The previous games this season have gone in Jim Weir's sides favour with two wins and a draw. Back on the opening day a goal from Chris McLeish gave them a 1-0 win at Central Park and our first visit to Borough Briggs in late October saw then run out 3-1 winners with goals from Brian Cameron, Archie MacPhee and Shane Sutherland before Brian Ross pulled back a late consolation.

The return game at Central Park was initially called off an hour from kick off and eventually took place in March when Cameron's opener was cancelled out by Dale Carrick to give Gary Locke his first home point.

Since that cold midweek night the fortunes of both sides have vastly contrasted, our revival under Locke has seen us take a further ten points in our eight games, at the time we were eight behind Berwick and four behind Clyde at the foot of the table, while Elgin's subsequent seven outings have seen them take four points, with top scorer Sutherland being ruled out after hobbling off injured seven minutes after coming on as a second half sub.
