MATCH PREVIEW - FORFAR ATHLETIC (H)

Posted April 28, 2017

Its the final home league game of the season as we welcome title contenders to Central Park for the second successive week, this time in the shape of Gary Bollan's Forfar side who have led the table since the third week of the season.

After being relegated along with us from last season's League One there couldn't be a more contrast in fortunes of both sides with the Angus side looking at bouncing back to the third tier while we are in a dog fight with Clyde and Berwick to avoid a third successive relegation.

The three games between the sides this season have seen three wins for the Loons making them the only side we have failed to take a point from this season. Back in mid August we came back from being 3-1 down at Station Park to get back on level terms only to be sucker punched by a goal from Gavin Swankie with three minutes to lose 4-3.

Swankie was once again the man to break Cowden fans hearts in December when the Loons won by a similar score with the Forfar captain scoring the winner in stoppage time. When the sides met for the second time at Station Park in January Swankie was unable to add to his tally against us due to suspension but his side still came back from being a goal behind at the break to win 3-1.

Forfar go into the game a point ahead of neighbours Arboath and a fourth win combined with an Arbroath loss at home to Elgin would see the title go to the Loons. However the three points going in our favour would see us make ground on both Clyde and Berwick who face each other at Broadwood Stadium leaving it all to play for the following Saturday when we head north to Elgin, while Clyde are at fellow play off chasers Montrose and Berwick at home to Edinburgh City who of course preserved their league status last Saturday.

A boost for Gary Locke is the return of top scorer Kris Renton who missed last weeks defeat from Arbroath due to suspension. Forfar will meanwhile be without defender Michael Travis who is suspended for the game.
