MATCH REVIEW - EDINBURGH CITY (A)

Posted April 13, 2017

EDINBURGH CITY 1 COWDENBEATH 1
Saturday 8th April, Ladbrokes League Two Match No 32, Att 557

A stoppage time strike from Kris Renton, his third of the season against City, gave us a vital point on what was our last ever visit to Meadowbank Stadium.

After fielding an unchanged starting XI in the previous three games Gary Locke had to make two changes to his side with Scott Rumsby being suspended while Gerry McLauchlan called off ill on the morning of the game.

Beattie had the first chance of the afternoon for the home side but sent his shot over the bar from the edge of the box with ten minutes gone.

Five minutes later Rutherford was brought down by Porteous but Mullen’s free kick washeld by Stobbie.

Three minutes later Mullen sent a corner kick into the home box but captain for the day Pyper headed wide and soon after Rutherford was booked for simulation after going down in the box.

In 27 minutes Henderson sent a low cross into the box but Miller sliced his shot from seven yards.

We were made to pay for missed chances two minutes later when Pyper brought down Beattie and Josh WALKER fired an angled free kick into the top corner of the far post.

Five minutes from the break however we had the chance to get back on level terms when Buchanan was brought down in the box but Carrick’s resultant spot kick was saved by the diving Antell.

Then as the first half drew to a close a free kick from Miller went wide of goal.

The second half opened with McKee making a timely interception to stop Carrick in his tracks, while Sneddon saved a Gair shot at the other end.

Just short of the hour Renton sent a shot wide but the half was one of few chances for either side.

Going into the closing ten minutes Allan of the home side saw his shot saved by Sneddon while Renton sent a 20 yard free kick over the bar.

Sneddon then denied Walker and Beattie from a free kick before Kris RENTON levelled three minutes into added time when he turned on the edge of the box to fire home.
