COWDENBEATH 0 MONTROSE 2
Saturday 18th March, Ladbrokes League Two Match No 28, Att 302.
Goals in each half gave Montrose their first win at Central Park since February 1997 as our run of home games without a win stretched to eight games.
After the midweek draw with Elgin it was the same starting XI which took to the field at a damp Central Park.
The visitors had the first chance of the afternoon but Templeman’s 22 yard free kick was blocked by the defensive wall and soon after a long range drive from Allan was held by Sneddon.
Montrose’s bright start continued and a Watson shot was deflected for a corner, the first of four in succession.
Rutherford then sent an inviting ball into the visitors’ box but Renton failed to connect while a shot from Buchanan went wide.
Montrose took the lead with half an hour gone when a corner from Masson was headed back to Templeman by Fraser, who slotted the ball to Michael BOLOCHOWECKYJ who fired home at the near post from close range.
Then as the first half drew to a close, Mullen sent a good cross into the box but MacDonald intercepted to deny the lurking Carrick and Renton.
The second half opened with Rutherford clearing the ball off the line following another Montose corner and then Sneddon was called into action blocking a shot from Fraser with his legs.
In 54 minutes we had a good chance to draw level when Renton latched onto a Henderson cross but somehow sent his close range shot wide of the target.
In 71 minutes the striker had another opportunity from a Mullen corner but his shot went over.
Five minutes later Campbell floated a free kick into the Cowden box with Templeman’s header being blocked by Sneddon once more.
A minute later however the visitors doubled their advantage when a clearance fell to Bolochoweckyj who sent the ball across the Cowden goal for Matty SMITH to slot home from a few yards out.
