MATCH PREVIEW - ARBROATH (H)

Posted December 24, 2016

Hopefully will escape the worst of Storm Barbara and welcome Arbroath to Central Park for our last home game of 2016.

This will be the third meeting with Dick Campbell's side this season. Back in late July we won 2-0 at Gayfield Park in a Betfred Cup group game thanks to goals from Craig Johnston and Nickolay Todorov on his debut, while in September the sides fought out a goal less draw, also at Gayfield.

Draws have perhaps been the Red Lichties downfall so far this season in the race to catch leaders Forfar with seven from their 16 games so far, although last Saturday's comeback against Elgin saw them move into second spot.

After being two down early in the second half with Cameron and McLeish scoring for City two quick fire goals from Bryan Prunty and Steven Dorris had them back level before each side was reduced to ten men. Dorris then scored with a stoppage time penalty to keep all three points at Gayfield.

This was Arbroath's second successive win after beating league leaders Forfar the previous week for the second time this season. Earlier in the month they had lost to the inform Edinburgh City and Clyde in the Scottish Cup. The City defeat was their only league loss since we last met back.

While our visitors were enjoying a last gasp win the opposite was the case for us in last Saturday's 3-4 loss to Forfar with Arbroath resident Gavin Swankie doing the damage. There however were positive signs in the performance.
