'Chopper' originally signed for Cowden on a season long loan deal from Hearts in 2007/08 and was a standout in the first half of the season before missing the bulk of the remainder due to injury as the club went into freefall and relegation to the 3rd Division. The popular defender returned the following season on another loan deal and was a key player as the team regained their place in the 2nd division. Danny Lennon finally got his man on a permanent basis when Armstrong joined on a 2-year contract in October 2009 and the club has not lost a league game since.
