MATCH PREVIEW - ELGIN CITY (A)

Posted October 28, 2016

Saturday sees us kick off the second quarter of the Ladbrokes League Two campaign when we head north to face Elgin City at Borough Briggs with a 3pm kick off.

Jim Weir's side were of course opening day winners at Central Park back in August with Chris McLeish getting the only goal of the afternoon early in the second half. That win brought our nine game unbeaten league run against City, stretching back to 2005 to an end.

It was also Elgin's first league success at Central Park with their only other league success against us coming at Borough Briggs on 19th March 2005 when they won 2-0 thanks to goals in each half from Craig Higgins and Willie Martin.

After their opening ten games Weir's side find themselves in second place just three points behind leaders Forfar. Their away form however has been the key to their success so far with five of their six wins coming on the road.

At home they have surprisingly only taken three points in a 3-0 win over new boys Edinburgh City while they have suffered defeats from Arbroath (0-1), Clyde (0-2) and Annan (0-2).

In the Scottish Cup they ran out 4-0 winners at Netherdale last Saturday against Gala and will now face Hawick at home in the next round.

For us we will be looking to bounce back from our 1-0 home defeat from Lowland League leaders East Kilbride in the Scottish Cup last Saturday and start to move up the league table.

Following three successive home games it is our first road trip for a month with our last outing at Arbroath seeing a goal less draw at Arbroath after beating Montrose at Links Park 2-1 in our previous away match.
