MATCH PREVIEW - EDINBURGH CITY (H)

Posted August 19, 2016

After our exit from the Irn Bru Cup against Celtic on Tuesday night we get back into Ladbrokes League Two action on Saturday afternoon when we host league new boys Edinburgh City with a 3 p.m. kick off.

After being convincing winners of the Lowland League in two successive season's Gary Jardine's side made it into League Two win a play off win over East Stirlingshire in May.

His side however have found life tough so far however losing their opening six fixtures in the Betfred Cup and against Forfar and Elgin in the league.

You have to go back to season 1938/39 to find the last time we played City in league fixtures with us beating the capital side 6-1 on their last league visit to Central Park as we romped our way to the Second Division title in record breaking fashion.

Overall we played City in their original form ten times in league matches between 1934 and 1939 winning six, drawing three and losing just the once at City Park.

The complete record is Home Pld 5 W 4 D 1 L 0 F 20 A 5   Away Pld 5 W 2 D 2 L 1 F 16 A 8   Total Pld 10 W 6 D 3 L 1 F 36 A 13

Our only game with City in the modern era was on 22nd November 2003 when we ran out 5-2 winners in a Scottish Cup tie at Central Park. Bryan Gilfillan and an own goal had us 2-0 up after just four minutes and further goals from Ian Mauchlen, with a penalty and Gary Fusco had us going into the break winning 4-0. Dene Shields made it 5-0 before late goals from Gordon and Moraity reduced the deficit.

Chris Turner, who was sent off in Tuesday night's cup game, will be eligible to play in the game as his one match suspension will be served in next season's Irn Bru Cup.

The Citizen's however will be once again be without former Cowden legend Joe Mbu in the heart of their defence as he serves the second of a two match ban after being sent off against Forfar in the league opener.
