MATCH PREVIEW - ELGIN CITY (H)

Posted August 4, 2016

It's the start of the new Ladbrokes League 2 season on Saturday afternoon as we welcome Elgin City to Central Park, for the first time in over seven years, with a 3 p.m. kick off.

Whilst we suffered the disappointment of a second successive relegation last season it was an all time high for the Borough Briggs side who finished as runners up to East Fife, although like us lost out in the play offs at the semi final stage.

In the Betfred Cup Elgin made an exit at the group stages finishing bottom of Group B with 3 points which came from a 4-2 home win over Brechin City while their other games saw defeats from St Johnstone (1-3), Falkirk (0-3) and Stirling Albion (1-4).

PREVIOUS LEAGUE MEETINGS

Saturday's game will he the 21st time the sides have met in the league since Elgin joined the old SFL in 2000. We have had a good record against them since the first meeting on 26th August 2000 when goals from Davie Whyte and Murray McDowall (2) cancelled out Mark Slythe's opener to give us a 3-1 win at Central Park.

This was the first of 15 wins in the series with four draws and just one defeat which came at Borough Briggs on 19th March 2005 when goals from Craig Higgins and Willie Martin gave Elgin the points.
