Player Of The Year Function

Posted April 25, 2016

The Junction Bar once again hosted its annual awards event this evening - the CFC Oscars!  Despite the disappointing day at Central Park, the Junction Bar Cowdenbeath Supporters Club celebrated the achievements of several players over the course of the season wearing the blue jersey.   Also presenting their awards at the event were the Cowdenbeath Supporters Club.

The Junction Bar Cowdenbeath Supporters Club top goalscorer trophy and the Cowdenbeath Supporters Club Hooky Leonard Trophy (for top League goalscorer) of course we're both picked up by prolific striker Greig Spence - Greig of course is one of the 4 players in the running for the SPFL League One Player of the Year award.

There was unanimity too as both Supporters Clubs agreed that outstanding young goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon was their Young Player of the Year - so Jamie was awarded the Junction Bar Supporters Club Young Player of the Year trophy and the Cowdenbeath Supporters Club's John Finlay (snr) Trophy.

There were though differing views re goal of the season and the Junction Bar's trophy went to Dean Brett for his Messi-like effort at Ibrox back in January - a stunningly executed free kick off the underside of the bar.  The Cowdenbeath Supporters Club's Goal of the Season award went to Pat Scullion for his howitzer shot at East End Park.   Pat also won this trophy back in both season 2006/07 and in season 2007/08.

Then we came to the main event and both Supporters Clubs awarded their trophies to very worthy recipients.  Greig Spence's goalscoring exploits and his ceaseless endeavour saw him justly acclaimed as Junction Bar Cowdenbeath Supporters Club Player of the Year for 2015/16 - thus he follows in the footsteps of recent winners Robbie Thomson, Kane Hemmings, Kenny Adamson and John Armstrong.  The Cowdenbeath Supporters Club Player of the Year trophy was first awarded in 1963 and this year's winner was popular full back and captain Dean Brett. He follows on from defensive colleagues Nat Wedderburn, John Armstong, Kenny Adamson and Joe Mbu who were winners in recent years.
