MATCH PREVIEW - ALBION ROVERS (H)
Posted February 8, 2016
We complete a Monklands double on Tuesday night when we face Albion Rovers at Central Park with a 7.45 p.m. kick off, hoping to bounce back from Saturday's 2-0 Ladbrokes League 1 defeat at Airdrie.
It has been a disappointing 2016 so far for both sides who have each lost their opening four games of 2016. For most of the campaign Rovers have been a fixture in fourth spot but have now fallen down to seventh place after successive defeats from Airdrie (1-2), Ayr (1-3), Peterhead (1-5) and Stranraer (0-2).
Whilst we were going down to Airdrie at the Excelsior Stadium Rovers had an enforced free weekend after the Cliftonhill pitch was declared waterlogged and their game with Brechin was postponed.
The two previous meetings this season has seen each side win their home game. Back in August an early goal from Greig Spence proved enough for us to get our first win of the season.
The return game in November was twice postponed before finally going ahead at the third attempt and after a goal less first half we quickly took the lead at the start of the second half with Spence once again on target, but his effort was quickly cancelled out by former Central Parker Scott McBride, whilst Josh Mullin headed home what proved to be the winner midway through the half.
Last Monday night Mullin was transferred to Livingston with former Cowden frontman John Gemmell joining Clyde. To replace them Darren Young has brought in Spas Georgiev on loan from Livingston and called up Paul Archibald from their under 19 side.
COWDEN HOME FORM
Stranraer completed the double in our last home game breaking our unbeaten eight game home unbeaten run going back to the opening day of the season.
