Spotlight on the Under 20s

Posted January 16, 2016

Over the past few months, there have been a number of managerial changes to our Under 20 set up.  Unfortunately Craig “Toorie” Winter felt unable to devote the necessary time to the role due to family commitments.

Accordingly the Club asked the Under 20s Assistant Manager Brian Nelson to take up the role of Under 20s Manager and he is assisted by Dean Ewing who is also the Club’s Community Coach.  Brian was formerly an S form signing with Dunfermline Athletic and reserve level player with Raith Rovers. As well as coaching the Cowdenbeath youths over recent years he has also previously coached Dunfermline youth teams and carried out match analysis for Hearts.

Brian is committed to finding and coaching the best talent to continue the Club’s enviable reputation for producing professional footballers.  Indeed, Cowdenbeath has been renowned for bringing through our own home grown players from as far back as the early 1950s when Cowdenbeath Royals were established as our feeder club.

The current 1st team squad boasts no fewer than 6 home grown players, Jamie Sneddon, Dean Brett, Liam Callaghan, Kyle Miller, Lewis Milne, and Craig Johnston.  In addition, Thomas O’Brien (Forfar), Archie Campbell (Clyde) & Aron Lynas (On loan at East Stirling from Alloa) are all graduates of the Blue Brazil Football Academy.

Brian is looking forward to developing our current crop of young players as well as attracting new talent from the Fife Elite Football Academy (FEFA) and beyond to keep the conveyor belt of talent running at Cowdenbeath.

After the winter break, and their return from their Erasmus Training Camp in Portugal, the Under 20s resume on Wed 20th Jan at Berwick with the first home game scheduled for 7.30pm v Alloa on Tues 26th Jan.

Why not come along and see the next generation of talent at Central Park.  Admission is free to matches for season ticket holders and £2 & £1for Adults and Concessions respectively.
