MATCH PREVIEW - ALBION ROVERS (H)
Posted December 24, 2015
We continue our run of home games when Albion Rovers make their second visit of the season to Central Park with a 3 p.m. kick off.
The match sees us reach the halfway stage in Ladbrokes League 1 and manager Colin Nish will be looking for our good home record to continue and to get into the chasing pack for a place in the top half of the table.
However Rovers will provide tough opposition in that quest and have been a revelation since player/manager Darren Young took over at the start of last season. Since then Young has led them to the League 2 title and consolidated them in third place in League 1.
Rovers have a trio of former Cowden players in their ranks - John Gemmell, who was our top scorer in his only season at Central Park back in 08/09, Gary Fisher who had a loan spell with us during our Second Division Championship season in 2012 and Scott McBride who was a First Division play off winner on 2010.
The honours have been even so far in the previous two meetings this season with each side winning their home fixture (a trend we hope continues this week!).
Back in August an early goal from Greig Spence gave us a 1-0 win at Central Park and in November he gave us the lead just after the break at Cliftonhill, however McBride quickly equalised and then Josh Mullin headed home what proved to be the winner midway through the second period.
