Match Preview - Arbroath (H)

Posted November 28, 2015

We take a break from the league on Saturday as we face Arbroath in the Third Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup with a 3 p.m. kick off at Central Park.
The last Scottish Cup meeting between the sides was on 24th November 2007 when a goal after five minutes from Pat Clarke gave us a 1-0 win at Gayfield Park. Arbroath won the first cup meeting of the sides in 4-1 at Central Park in season 1951/52 and in season 1965/66 it took three games before we won a second preliminary round tie 3-2 at neutral Tannadice Park after a 1-1 draw at Central Park while the first replay at Gayfield ended 2-2.

In season 1980/81 we also drew 1-1 at Gayfield in the third round before winning the replay at Central Park 4-0.
Our complete record against them in the Scottish Cup is  Pld 7 W 3 D 3 L 1 F 13 A 10.
Like us Todd Lumsden's side have had an up and down season so far in Ladbrokes League 2 and only a better goal difference keeps them above Berwick Rangers at the foot of the table.
The match see's former Central Parkers Allan Fleming and David Gold make a return to Central Park. Fleming came through our youth ranks a decade ago and played a few games in the first team before spending nine seasons at Kelty Hearts, while Gold had a spell on loan to us from Hibs two season's ago.

The solidary former Red Lichtie in the Cowden camp is Aldin El Zubaidi who spent the first half of last season on loan at Gayfield from Hamilton Accies.

Both our loan signings Andy Murdoch and Gordon Smith have been allowed to play in the match by their respective clubs Rangers and Dumbarton.

The Cowdenbeath Civic Week Winter Wonderland will be taking place behind the stand from 12 noon with funfair rides and an ice rink so why not come along early for some pre match entertainment.
