Stirling Albion 2 Cowdenbeath 2

Posted November 21, 2009

A goal at the death from teenage forward John Ferguson deservedly preserved Cowden's slender lead at the top of the Irn-Bru Second Division and extended the Club's unbeaten league run to eight games.

The Blue Brazil pressed from the kick-off and it was no surprise when Gareth Wardlaw opened the scoring after only 11 minutes. Dene Droudge swung in a fantastic delivery from the right and Wardlaw headed past Christie from point blank range.

Stirling got a foothold back in the game after the influential Wardlaw picked up an injury and was replaced by Ferguson after 24 minutes but the game remained 0-1 at half-time.

Cowden regained control after the interval and created chance after chance but, as often happens, paid the penalty for not killing the game off. Martin Grehan was dismissed after 75 minutes but Stirling showed their mettle as the 10-men first equalised and then took the lead with 3 minutes remaining - Ross Forsyth (79, pen) and David McKenna (87).

Stirling had more than met their match though and Cowden showed their character as Ferguson scrambled home the equaliser with almost the last kick of the ball.
