PETROFAC CUP EXIT

Posted July 28, 2014

COWDENBEATH 1 BRECHIN CITY 3 (AET).

The competitive season didn't get off to the start we would have wanted as two extra time goals saw Ray McKinnon's League 1 side run out winners at Central Park on Saturday afternoon.

After a combination of heavy rain, thunder and lightning 15 minutes from kick off we got season underway before 294 hardy fans and took the lead with 13 minutes gone when SEAN HIGGINS ended an neat piece of play by firing a shot into the far corner of the City net.

The visitors drew level on 64 minutes through ROBERT THOMSON, within 60 seconds of him replacing former Central Parker Gary Fusco, who picked up a pass from Trouten and swept his shot under the diving Robbie Thomson.

City keeper Smith then parried a Johnston shot into the path of Higgins but his shot but went agonisingly past the post and the game went into added time.

Within three minutes of added time the visitors took the lead when Brash sent over a cross which Thomson could only parry into the path of ALAN TROUTEN who had plenty of time to fire the ball into the empty Cowden net.

And three minutes into the second period the Glebe Parkers made sure of their place in Tuesday's second round draw when RYAN FERGUSON collected a short pass from Trouten and his deflected shot flew into the Cowden net.

Next up for Jimmy Nicholl's side is a visit to Broadwood Stadium next Saturday to face Barry Ferguson's Clyde in the opening round of the League Cup with a 3 p.m. kick off.
