Defeat To Falkirk

Posted January 21, 2014

COWDENBEATH 0 FALKIRK 2

It was another disappointing afternoon at Central Park on Saturday as two goals early in the second half saw visitors Falkirk extend their unbeaten Championship run to nine games to move to within touching distance of the top two.

Jimmy Nicholl run the changes to the starting line up following the previous week's defeat from Dumbarton with new signings James Fowler and Darren Brownlie making their debuts after signing the previous day with Greg Stewart also retuning from injury.

An even first 45 minutes saw the sides go in at the break level but just after the restart a spectacular fingertip save from Bairns keeper Michael McGowan denied Stewart with a bullet header before the visitors opened the scoring after 53 minutes when Mark Millar fired on the turn from the edge of the box to give Flynn no chance.

McGowan then blocked efforts from both Stewart and Hemmings before Rory Loy got a vital second goal for the Bairns in 55 minutes. There after Gary Holt's side controlled the game as were once again left to ponder what might have been had Stewart's header gone in.

The result now leaves us 10 points behind Livingston, Queen of the South and Alloa who are all tied on 28 points. Below us Morton made ground on us with a 1-0 win at Morton which leaves them five points adrift.

Next up for Jimmy Nicholl's side is a visit to New Douglas Park on Saturday to face second place Hamilton.
