MATCH PREVIEW – ALLOA ATHLETIC

After the disappointment of closing 2013 with Saturday’s defeat from Queen of the South we open 2014 when we first foot Alloa on Thursday afternoon with a 3 p.m. kick off in one of only two Championship games taking place that day.
It will be a stern test to open the New Year with as Paul Hartley’s side have beaten us twice. On our first visit to the Recs back in August we lost 3-1 with the Wasps scoring twice in the last 11 minutes.
Ben Gordon opened the scoring for the home side just after the break with Kane Hemmings quickly equalising.
However after a net bound shot from Andrew Russell came off the under- side of the bar with keeper Scott Bain beaten Andy Kirk restored the Wasps lead and as we chased an equaliser Eddie Ferns added a third with a minute to go.
The return game at Central Park in November saw Alloa win 2-0 at Central Park thanks to first half goals from Kevin Cawley and Kirk once again.

MINUTES APPLAUSE
Following the untimely death of lifetime Cowden Supporter and former director of the club Stuart Juner at the weekend Cowden fans will be holding a minute’s applause in his honour in the 10th minute of the game.

COWDEN FORM
We go into the New Year in 9th place and with 15 points at the halfway stage of the season some five points behind Dumbarton who will be our next visitors to Central Park and six points ahead of bottom side Morton.
After having a poor away record earlier this season we are unbeaten on our travels since the appointment of Jimmy Nicholl with a 2-1 win at Dundee and a 3-3 draw at Raith Rovers.
