COWDENBEATH 0 MOTHERWELL 5
We completed our public pre-season games with a heavy defeat from Motherwell at Central Park on Saturday afternoon. Although the 'Well also had a game at Morecombe assistant manager Kenny Black had a number of their first team squad in his line up including Scottish internationalist James McFaddden.
Colin Cameron gave trialist keeper Scott Mathieson and a left back a run out as he looks to boost his squad for the season ahead although Thomas Flynn, Jamie Stevenson and Marc McKenzie didn't take part in the game.
On a blistering hot day the top division side took the lead on 31 minutes when Dominic Thomas fired home a well placed shot and they doubled their advantage just before the break when Greg Stewart had a clumsy tackle on Keith Lasley and Bob McHugh fired home the resulting spot kick.
As we tired in the heat against the full timers Motherwell added three more goals in the closing 14 minutes. McHugh got his second goal of the afternoon with a long range free kick which was well placed into the top corner of the Cowden net.
Keith Lasley made it 4-0 in 81 minutes when he slotted home a loose ball after a free kick had hit the defensive wall and with four minutes to go Craig Moore made it 5-0 with a close range shot which took a slight defelection.
On Tuesday night we have a closed door game before the season starts in earnest next Saturday with our Ramsens Cup tie with Dunfermline Athletic at Central Park.
