Cowden Hold Sheffield United To Draw

Posted July 7, 2013

COWDENBEATH 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 1

A stunning strike from Jordan Morton on his return from Livingston gave us a well- earned draw against the Blades at Central Park on Saturday afternoon.
The first chance of a quite first half came from Stevenson who saw his long range free kick blocked by the defensive wall.
With 12 minutes gone the visitors suffered a blow when Doyle hobbled off to be replaced by Smith.

As the first half drew to a close things livened up and four minutes from the interval McKenzie broke into the Blades box but agonisingly saw his shot go inches wide of the target after slotting the ball past the on rushing Howard.
In the final minute of the half the visitors broke the deadlock when a Hodder saw a shot deflected for a corner.

The ball was floated into the Cowden box and eventually a Maguire header at the back post was touched home by Chris Porter.
For the start of the second half, United changed their entire XI with the exception of Smith while Colin Cameron made five changes.

The visitors started the second half strongly and twice within as many minutes keeper Mathieson pulled off good saves to deny Ironside.
However gradually we came more into the game and were rewarded in 64 minutes when Jordan Morton fired in a low 25 yard shot for our equaliser.
With seven minutes to go fellow new signing Russell had a good chance to grab the winner but his shot from the edge of the box flew over the bar.
