MATCH PREVIEW – SHEFFIED UNITED
It’s the first game of the season on Saturday as we welcome David Weir and his Sheffield United side to Central Park for the first ever meeting of the clubs.
Weir, who is a former team mate of Colin Cameron at both Hearts and Scotland, only took over at Bramall Lane last month succeeding Danny Wilson who was dismissed by the Blades with five games to go last season as their automatic promotion hopes begun to fade.
Subsequently they lost in the play-off semi-finals to eventual winners Yeovil Town and will now spend a third season in League 1 after being a Premier League side as recently as six years ago.
On Wednesday night the Blades opened their Scottish tour with a 1-0 win over Morton at Cappielow with Chris Morgan getting the only goal of the night from the penalty spot after 69 minutes.
Weir fielded two completely different XI’s in each half on Wednesday and included a few trialists including former Hearts play Danny Grainger and Steven Saunders who is out of contract at Motherwell.
Colin Cameron will be handing debuts to his three summer signings ex Livingston duo Jordan Morton and Andrew Russell as well as Nathaniel Wedderburn a former England internationalist who was signed on Friday from Soutern League side Corby Town after previously being a youth player at Stoke City.
Cameron is also likely to field at least one trialist during the 90 minutes.
